Re: Pemmican
I would think that if you're making it for arctic exploration that you could put whatever you like in it as the low temperature would stop it spoiling anyway. As for adding vitamin c, you're probably right there, I know the dried fruits were traditionally added to help prevent scurvy and make it int...

Re: I thought I was prepping
I think we all get distracted by shiny stuff to some extent, I'm forever buying new mess kits and molle pouches, if you can afford to do that as well as doing some arguably more useful preps then it doesn't matter unless you have so much gear that you can't actually get to any of the bits you need t...

Re: Vehicle preps
Sadly car makers try and corner you for any job look at the Renault Megan with the impossible to change headlamp bulbs.. Most new car makers don't even supply a spare wheel now. .. Its shocking walking about a car park and seeing the condition of many car tyres.... I check mine weekly oil and coola...

Re: Vehicle preps
A lot of people don't even know how to do the basic checks, they've tacked a couple of questions relating to basic maintenance onto the driving test now, but I suspect that most people just immediately forget about it afterwards. People are lazy, the number of commercial vehicles and taxis I see wit...

Re: Pemmican
Al the recipes that I've seen for it are just the dried meat and rendered fat, possibly with the addition of dried fruit and/or nuts, lemon juice would certainly make it taste nicer, but I don't know if there's a reason why you don't add it, maybe some people do and I just haven't seen it, but it co...

Re: Pemmican
Pemmican is pretty grim as is, but if you add something acidic to it when you make it like dried cranberries for example, it becomes a whole different thing, I've banned myself from making it, would have ended up not being able to fit through my door.

Re: Brand new to Prepping
Pets have pretty much the same needs as us, food, water and shelter, I have three cats personally, I have food for them for the same time as myself and my girlfriend, and water is factored in too, (not that they ever want to drink any of it) as well as a stock of as many basic medicines as I can get...

LDS Preparedness manual.
Ok, so having done a search I know this has been posted before, but as it was last mentioned a couple of years ago I thought I'd pop this topic up for any newer members that don't yet know about it. Some of you may know that the Mormons are required to prep, and hold a year's food supply for the ent...

Re: Brand new to Prepping
Hi and welcome. What you do now is entirely down to your situation and the reason you're thinking about prepping, a good first aid kit is in my opinion essential for everyone though so that's a very good start. I would say whatever you're prepping for then start slow, if you're thinking about buildi...

Re: New EDC Rucksack
As for EDC multitools, the Gerber dime and Leatherman squirt are ok but the pliers are a little weak, have a look at the IDL tools T5, it doesn't have the bells and whistles, it's just basically a small folding set of pliers with a flat head and Phillips head on the handle, but the pliers are MUCH s...
