Re: Sleeping bag and food prep

I like the jetboil as it's very fuel efficient but at a price I also have a "Kelly kettle" aka "storm kettle" http://www.uk-preppers.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=12689 We've been off-grid for coming up to ten months now and the one bit of kit we've heavily relied upon is...

Re: Buying woodland.

Okay, I'll push this thread back on topic a bit (step away from the cheesey savoury snacks). Another hidden benefit of buying a woodland is that you can apply for planning permission to have a portable structure on site and this includes the prepper's dream of a shipping container. In fact, a shippi...

Re: Buying woodland.

As this is a prepping forum, I should also point out an emptied Treeselet tub makes a useful semi-airtight container. (That's what I keep telling myself, anyway).

Re: Buying woodland.

Thanks again Briggs. I've played with a few numbers, and no matter how I looked at it, it's never going to make sense financially. For a start, we currently only have a tiny piece of woodland (more like a few trees at the bottom of the garden really, totalling a bit less than an acre). I've been lo...

Re: £13 ebay hammocks, any good???

Deeps, I have not idea how tall you are, but I'd suggest getting a hammock that is large enough for you to lay in diagonal, not end to end like a banana. Lying across the hammock, diagonally, is considerably more comfortable than end to end, with your shoulders compressed and feet jammed together. ...

Re: Buying woodland.

Thanks Briggs, certainly some things to think about there. I must admit to not even knowing the claimed output of the current range, but to be honest if I go ahead with this plan I'll probably need to invest in a larger more efficient one anyway. No probs - we've made a few mistakes and learned a l...

Re: £13 ebay hammocks, any good???

Got to ask, how much more comfy is it kipping in a hammock ? Yet again I've had a crap kip when heading out, I've got a better (well more expensive) air mattress and I suspect its me getting older rather than anything else. It wouldn't always be feasible as I'm more often at places without loads of...

Re: Buying woodland.

I ran my previous home on biomass sourced from my woodland to provide all heating and hot water so I've been down the road you're thinking of taking. I was using approximately four tons of wood fuel per annum via a 20Kw burner. From my 7 acres of mixed coniferous and native broadleaf, only about a t...
