Was thinking about this on my 12 hr nightshift,like you do. Most modern houses have double glazing,what about taking the glass out,which is quite easy and replacing with sheet metal,bit of angle iron around the edges to make up the gap from the old window with wingspan etc for insulation. Finished off a gas bottle burner,which was an ongoing project for the last 18 months.
Initial burn was good. Just needs a few finishing touches.

I've been making candle holders from old jars,drill holes either side,cut bottom off, candle fits in the lid and used some thick copper wire I had lying round threaded through the holes.
Could do with a power cut to get the Mrs on board,does my head in how blinkered some people are!

Save your money and find yourself a nice fork.
You'll appreciate a lot more,and like that all said,practice,practice,practice.
I personally use chain linked elastic bands,any power combination you like and cheap as chips.
I've had chain linked fire a BB as powerful as double theraband.
