Re: Allotment: Woo Hoooo!!! :) :) :)
Really great news about the allotment! If you cut the bottoms off plastic and coke bottles you can use the “body” of the bottle as a mini greenhouse to keep the frost off young or tender plants. When I had an allotment I kept a patch of nettles. Young nettles are nutritionally dense and worth their ...

Re: A Preppers Christmas tale
Thank you got that. Makes you realise the little things in life are actually the big things.

Re: Wartime cookbooks
Looked up a simple recipe on internet there are several and just substitute GF flour. You can use left over mashed potato or even Smash or something. I cook this by eye, so if you’ll forgive the bucket chemistry my recipe/method : About 1small coffee cupful of plain flour, two tablespoons of cold ma...

I remember Home Bargains sold a similar product, potato slices with ham pieces in a pouch. Haven’t seen it for ages.

Re: Hungry kids
Some people live in areas that are a “food desert” that is, their home is not within walking distance of a decent food outlet. If you’re disabled/can’t drive/ can’t afford to fix the car it isolates you and even acquiring healthy food becomes a monumental task. People need to team up and car share, ...

Re: Wartime cookbooks
My brother got me a couple of books by The Greedy Italians. There are loads of simple, nutritious basic recipes that are used by poorer folks in winter. Learned to make gnocchi and my own pasta and noodles. They cook up quickly so save energy. I’m gluten free so take care to make sure I’ve got a goo...

Re: Old medicines
With medicine I must admit I’d rather chuck out old medicine if it’s more than a couple of months past it’s shelf life. If in a SHF scenario there’s little medicine around, we’ll all need reasonably fresh stuff that will last for months. If your stuff is already old it won’t help you. There are some...

Re: Old medicines
If you’ve got any aspirin containing meds bin them because it decomposes to vinegar. Must admit I’ve got stuff knocking around in the back of my medicine cupboard that’s past it’s shelf life on the box by a couple of months but anything that’s really more than a year out get rid of it. It can decomp...

Really proud of everyone telling bullying staff where to shove it. What a b&llache on top of everything else.
