Re: Dacia Duster... Anyone got one?

The 1.6 engine in the base model Dacia Duster is also in the Nissan Qashquai, the Duster is also sold as a Nissan in some markets, so you are not entirely correct there, there is old Renault technology is some of them, the Sandero is built on an old Clio floorpan for example, but as for old renaults...

Re: Rugged mobile phones

Cheers for the link there tanstaafl, I'd actually dug out my ancient Nokia to stick some credit on it and take it on a hiking trip, and since that link is a free phone when you buy a tenner's worth of credit and gives you a fiver cash back from quidco it's a no brainer really. I always take two phon...

Re: The last time you used your EDC?

I used my SAK to home-brew an adaptor to charge my laptop and phone. Didn't know South Africa has some weird round 3-pin plug so my usual travel adaptor was useless. I undid a bedside light, stripped the wires and wrapped them around the pins of my charger plug - job done. Oh and used it to trim th...

Re: Suggest an EDC Pen

Another cheap option I forgot to mention, very cheap in fact, poundland sell a shorter version of the Bic four colour retractable ballpoints that everyone thought were the most amazing thing ever back when I was at school, I bought one the other day for the nostalgia factor and they're much sturdier...

Re: Suggest an EDC Pen

I carry a fisher space pen, all metal, nice and solid, short so takes up little space but extends for use by putting the cap on the end of it and lovely to write with, can be bought on Amazon for about 14 quid upwards. For the really cheap option, ring up one of those life insurance companies that g...

Re: Hello and apologies

Never heard of that one before?, will give it a bash next time I have the flu! :D So far I've only used the classic cotton wool and petroleum jelly trick. Ha these are toffee apple sticks - poke one through the petroleum wool and jam it into firm ground. This makes an excellent base for starting a ...

Re: Hot Cans - Anyone tried them??

I would be inclined to agree, I used to keep pots of self heating coffee in my car, did the job just about for a warm drink with a lot of caffeine to perk you up on a long drive but didn't get all that hot, cost about as much as a coffee from a service station and a huge amount of the container (mor...

Re: LDS Preparedness manual.

Think it's a hangover from when they weren't particularly accepted, there have been efforts in the past to run the LDS out of town, pretty sure within living memory (although I could be wrong there), not going to go into details on the history or what I think the reasons for that are/were or may hav...

Re: Micro survival kits

There's actually a company selling them on Amazon stuffed into empty shotgun cartridges, they do a fire kit and a survival kit, I can see the the usefulness of the fire kit ones, they contain a few waterproof matches, some waxed jute tinder and a small ferrocerium rod, and may be quite handy one day...

Re: Prepping for Poverty???

First thing, change your energy supplier, you're being ripped off, if you google "Martin's energy club" it'll give you a link to a section of money saving expert, you can put in the stuff from your bill and it'll find you the cheapest deal, most of them give some cash back for switching an...
