Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

Returned to uk-preppers after a long time absence :D Finally got a week off work all to myself so going to rotate my long term storage stores, they are woefully un-rotated  I believe most the tins officially expired in 2019, not that I let a little thing like that bother me! There may even be ...

Re: solar security lights

I bought this a year ago. Works fab and because the solar panel is incorporated into the light fitting there are no wire for the foxes to bite through. Works for me because the light part is facing north so the solar panel part is facing south. However....it's now twice the price I paid for it a yea...

Some of my pak choi have actual teeth marks in them. Not even I can blame the slugs on that one. The cat has had a stern lecture....

Funny how things work out...

Having originally said that all I was going to grow this year was tomatoes as I didn't have time for anything else.... I've now covered one of the lawns* in cardboard, made two 4 foot square raised beds out of scaffold boards with bark mulched paths and have sown for Britain, albeit a bit late for s...

Re: Blueberries

Buleberries grow wild in Canada. I can't imagine they're that precious about temperature. Might be a different cultivar (Mr Google says "lowbush") but if they grow there they'll grow in Scotland. Mine survived The Beast From The East with no protection at all, which down here meant 4 conse...

Re: Blueberries

Now I feel bad. I have three in pots (though one is very small and in a tiny pot) on my patio and I am unbelievably negligent of them. The little one might even have been a Poundland bush. Not actually sure when I last fed them!!! They're kinda hidden at the back. But...oh I feel so guilty.....

Re: Allotments, where to start ?

Have you tried sprouting the Soya before planting? Yup! Usually about 1/3 sprout. Then I sow them and 1/3 push their way up. Not a good record! I've tried hotter, colder, deeper, shallower always about the same. Different seeds, including Ustie which is supposed to be bred for the UK. But I love Ed...

Re: Allotments, where to start ?

Just remember it takes years to find your groove with gardening, just be consistant, never great just consistant Am am consistent, consistently bad! Ok actually I'm good with tomatoes and chillies - I accidentally got the timing and conditions right first time and just kept repeating what I d...

Re: Allotments, where to start ?

Decide what style of gardening you prefer, some people prefer no dig methods Charles Dowding on youtube covers this well. I'd second Charles Dowding he has TONS of videos available on YouTube - sounds like you have time to evaluate the various methods available. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCB1...

Re: Interesting article on continuing flour shortages.

Ironically flour is something I did accidentally prep quite well for. Mostly because I'd bought a new vacuum sealer and wanted to play with it about a year ago, so purchased bag after bag, froze and then sealed it  I still have quite a bit of flour left. I sent my sister some rye flour this mor...
