Re: Sodium Silicate Solution

Links I've read say dip or paint, then air dry. I can imagine they'd be a wee bit soft if you left em in there!

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

May I ask you Cocotte why are you thinking your going to need weapons to fight folks off? The world as been thru two world wars people in the uk pulled together. better to build community than arming oneself to the teeth. Humans have a good abilty to reason, trade ect as well, without some sort of ...

Re: Sodium Silicate Solution

Oooer, it shouldn't do that; all page content on FB must be public - there's no other setting for it! I run two or three business pages on there.

I think you're right that it's an iPhone thing; try it from a desktop?

Re: What's your all-time most fav book?

Probably anything by Terry Pratchett.... although in the last 2 years my daily reading usually includes classics such as "There's a Cow in the Cabbage Patch" and "Moomin's Most Magical Pop Up Book". Sigh. Can I assume your daily reading is due to a small person? How about adding...

Re: Uselful Tool

Before we lived here - which is in the wilds, as you say - we lived in Leicester. The front door was unlocked, but we had a dog I'd trained to bark if someone he didn't know touched the handle or letterbox. And although he was a collie cross, he sounded like a couple of rotties when he got going! He...

Re: Sodium Silicate Solution

You don't need an account to view the content; it's a page, so it's all public :) The solution is Sodium Silicate, or water glass, and you can find more information about it if you run it through a search engine. Basically, to preserve fresh eggs for 9-12 months, you just paint them with the solutio...

Re: Uselful Tool

Once someone is down, I'm going to be digging out something to restrain them with and making sure they're going to survive! As I sit here now, I'm surrounded by my work tools. Hammers, small anvil, all sorts of mandrels, any amount of sharp and pointy things, scalpels, a drill and lots of throwing a...

Re: Sodium Silicate Solution

One of the links I checked did say that it's a technique that's been used for a while :) Sometimes, I think humans are stupid - and conditioned to equate 'new' with 'good' and 'old' with 'bad'. Yet a lot of the really good food preservation techniques have been around a lot longer than I have, and t...

Re: Allergic Reactions

Aye, I know they're expensive - and they can also not work. But I think it's something on my ''if I can afford it'' list. In the absence of an A&E or a doctor, it might just be a lifesaver. Severe allergic reactions can be absolutely terrifying, and it's not very unusual for someone to get one c...

Allergic Reactions

Someone has probably covered this already, but eppy pens? Nasal sprays? Antihistamines? Prompted by someone I know who has recently developed a severe allergic reaction to nuts after years of eating the things with no trouble. She's carrying Piriton tablets - I've suggested she move to a nasal spray...
