Re: blue badge

Like I say, life pulls you up short and there's always someone worse off. Being in the care sector most of my adult life didn't make me heartless and I wasn't when I first joined and trained. But looking after the genuinely ill and needy makes you less tolerant, not more, of the chancers and lead s...

Re: blue badge

I would benefit from a blue badge, I'm awaiting hip replacement and at times it's difficult. But there's no way I'm begging help from Drs and assessors, I'd rather crawl across a gravel car park on my knees, than do that. I've worked since 15 yrs until I retired, never unemployed, barely ever sick....

Re: Buy or build a Home First Aid Kit

It depends on the training, a one day course is quickly forgotten, all you'll remember is about burns and choking and elevating wounds and what to do in a case of shock, if you're lucky. Yearly refreshers are the way to go, to keep the knowledge fresh and implanted. I am lucky, I was a nurse for 34...

Re: Buy or build a Home First Aid Kit

Construct compile your own, most first aid kits are worthless and don't contain what you need, besides plasters and have stuff you'll never use/need. Agreed. ;) However,I would say that first aid training is MORE important! With the knowledge of treatment, one can adapt with equipment available. As ...

Re: Self defence ideas

Over my lifetime,I have been in a scrap or two ! I’ve been hurt,I’ve hurt them, and been arrested too. I’ve been a bit of a lad! I have also served in HM services and been in a scrap or two where we used guns! Self defence is needed if needed. Only IF though. My experience is that avoidance is the be...

Re: Advice for a hopeless gardener

However,I now grow - or rather *they* grow themselves- perennial onions. Egyptian grow a bulb, which destroys the plant if you should crop it.However, the stems ( similar to a Spring onion) are constant. Seeds will be set too on stems, and the set plant will grow again. Jansman, I'm pleased to report ...

Re: Advice for a hopeless gardener

I haven’t grown onions via seed or set in years. White rot is the issue. However,I now grow - or rather *they* grow themselves- perennial onions. Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

I nearly choked when I read that. 4 hours! I was gonna see how it was after half an hour. Pasta only takes 11-14 minutes (white 11, wholewheat 14). Anyway, I forgot. I had 1/3 Spice Taylor 400g with 1 long life naan (2 for 69p) and I feel full enough. 500 calories. I'm trying to lose a few pounds I...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

So Mrs J is now thoroughly aware of emergency gas and diesel heating. Video taken too! Today appropriate storage for gas bottles and red diesel is available. If the power goes off now,she will be fine . Later today I will make sure she understands our (my :D ) battery storage operates, along with pow...
