Re: boot laces

The problem I tend to have with laces is that the other sheath tends to come seperated from the inner core. Can be "solved" to a degree by melting the ends or even just tying a knot in them but it is irritating.

Re: Prepper -'lite' or full on survivalist

UHNWIs are the best preppers, so I try to improve my financial situation and build a glass floor for my child I had to look that one up as I didn't know the acronym but I have to say you're right even if the concept is a little uncomfortable. Correct also to say improving your financial situation i...

Re: Prepper -'lite' or full on survivalist

Pragmatism I've sometimes described myself as a pragmatic communist and equally I'd describe myself as a pragmatic prepper. What that means is that in reality the prepper-lite tag is the one that fits better. A lot of the survivalist stuff is in my view at the very best pure hollywood fueled fantasy...

Re: Disproportionate storage

That strategy reminds me of my mother's practices. She would "pay" the same amounts when she didn't need to although the paying meant putting that money aside. For instance before they brought the house it was council owned and there were a number of rent free weeks per year. Mom would sti...

Re: Using old Diesel

This subject has come up on other forums. From what I understand this licence to store 30-275L does come with conditions other than just providing name and address. There seems to be requirements for distances to adjacent buildings and water courses and it seems somewhat difficult to obtain a licenc...

Re: Using old Diesel

I suppose it is naughty because we assume you're storing the petrol without one of those fancy licences and forum rules don't promote illegality. Saying that in the lockdown when supermarkets dropped the price to 99p a litre I did buy more than the 30L myself... Pragmatically speaking if you're stor...

Re: Using old Diesel

It would wouldn't it. It's a question that I've seen asked on a couple of other forums and nobody seems to have the answer. Perhaps that means there are a number of hoops to jump through or people are wary of inspectors turning up at their houses or perhaps people are just happy to turn a blind eye ...

Re: Using old Diesel

Yes I'll admit I skimmed it a bit at first and read it that I could store 30L in the garage and 30L in the van but on closer inspection it's 30L in total  To be honest I prefer to keep fuel in metal containers if it's stored for any length of time especially if it's petrol. I also prefer conta...

Re: Using old Diesel

As I read it it's also ok to store 30L on the vehicle in cans in addition to the vehicle's own tank which appears to me to be a loophole which allows effectively 60Ls of storage ? Just reread and I think I'm wrong there. It says up to 30L in a maximum of two containers ( are there 15L jerry cans?) ...

Re: Using old Diesel

I realise we're veering towards petrol rather than diesel but I think we are all agreed there's no limit to storing diesel and it's pretty much safe to use . Interesting reading the government website though concerning petrol storage . We all seem agreed that 30L can be stored without involving the ...
