Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.

The Netherton prices are definitely cause for hyperventilation - and I'm a Southerner! I was eyeing up the Petromax dutch oven range last year at the Wilderness Gathering. Prices are much nearer my pocket depth but with the amount of camping and outdoors cooking that has not happened for us this yea...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.

Cleared the larger outdoor tomatoes and brought the green ones in to ripen on the windowsill. The temperature in the greenhouse is dropping enough at night now that the chilli peppers also need the winter treatment. Prairie Fire plant brought indoors for the kitchen windowsill as it is small enough ...

Re: Gadgets everywhere

Technology is like fire. A good servant and a lousy master. As Bosworth has pointed out, it can save your bacon. But as preppers we also need to consider what happens if the "system" goes down. Can we cope? will that Internet of Things fridge or washing machine still run if the internet goes down in...

Re: do you have any strange health remedies?

Growing up TCP was the cure all for cuts grazes, mouth ulcers and sore throats. If we were out of TCP then we were made to use strong salt water as a mouth wash or gargle for the sore throats or mouth ulcers.

Re: Improvised Faraday Cage...?

I have been working from home for the last 6 months. We were down for just over a week before the line was right. I was able to use the mobile phone as a hotspot for work which was "interesting" as I got cut off from Teams meetings as soon as anyone tried to phone me. meanwhile the two young adults ...

Re: Improvised Faraday Cage...?

Yes. We do feel lucky to still have a roof and so little damage. I had to refit a GP Surgery after a lightning strike. 100% of the IT kit failed inlcuding the UPS. Thankfully the old gas boiler had been removed so I dont think there was much left to explode in the chimney. The postie was less impres...

Re: Improvised Faraday Cage...?

I think the easy route to earth is the key component for protection in a Faraday cage. We have just had an object lesson in this sort of thing. We were struck by lightning in the big storms of early August. The lightning went to earth down the now unused, metal flue liner in the chimney. We saw the ...

Re: No cost or low cost preps

Our local tip now has a re-use shop where all usable items like this are sold back to the public. Gas bottles, unused tiles and some other bits are also explicitly left in areas that allow others to help themselves. Everything sold or taken is one less thing to pay landfill tax on. Maybe your counci...

Re: Wide mouthed Stainless thermos..

I find that baby sterilizing tablets are also good to sort out stinky thermos and water bottles. Just rinse well after.
