Re: Trailer tents

We had a second hand Pennine trailer tent when our boys were young and we lived elsewhere. It was huge when erected ( once described as a small bungalow) but we could keep it in our garage whereas a caravan would have to be kept elsewhere due to the driveway there. We never had problems with water i...

Re: "Impossible Builds" on More4

Since my dad infected me with the disease back in the 70s I have wanted to design and build my own home. Trouble is, when I costed it some time ago I realised that for the price of where I was living, I wouldn't get anything bigger and it would be on a smaller plot. Some plots came up recently near ...

Re: "Impossible Builds" on More4

Loved the location of last night's build - don't get views like that here although ours are pretty good - and noticed it also had a shed/garage but where was all their day to day stuff? Where were the dog beds/water etc. Where were the books? Other people must have a lot fewer belongings than we do ...

Re: Prepping, relocation and moral dilemmas

Oh, how exciting. As for growing your own, just grow what you eat and don't worry about it. Even though we've been growing stuff for years, every garden is different and every year is different and we can still kill anything (even cacti). We got a dog for security purposes and he is the worst guard ...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 5.

Storm Ali brought down some quite large branches so we've been processing them. Small bits have been shredded for mulch and larger bits chopped into logs and stacked for the fire. (Well, for next year really)

Re: Prepping, relocation and moral dilemmas

Go for it. We moved to a smallholding a 4 hour drive away from sons (in their 20s) and my elderly mother as, like you we couldn't afford anything similar nearer to where we were living at the time. The only experience I had of livestock was about 40 years previously when we kept chickens and goats w...

Re: What not to grow

In the past l grew asparagus but it wasn't very successful, probably because I didn't give it enough attention. I think we got 7 spears in 5 years. I've since tried growing it from seed which was OK until I planted the little plants out in the garden. I think the rabbits got them as they weren't pro...

Re: Just joined

Yes, I tend to think of preppers as American doomsday or zombie apocalypse types which I am certainly not. I like the self sufficient/reliant standpoint instead.

Re: What not to grow

This year I had my first successful harvest of Florence fennel (the large bulbs). I enjoy these in salads but now realise that, even though they are £1.99 a bulb in our nearest greengrocer, I really don't like them that much after all when there are enough to have every day. I will not be growing th...
