Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.

We have to retain a degree of normality, humanity and dignity. My wife is exactly the same as you. Yes but.... It's bl00dy selfish. If I bring infection home it would probably cost a life, maybe even my own. I'm inclined to prepare to self isolate for maybe a week as my punishment for this indulgence...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.

This morning I successfully trimmed my own hair. I had planned on making an appointment with the hairdresser now shielding is over, but he's in town and my last couple of visits to town have put me off again, so I'll stay away and cut my own. This is a real issue for me. I usually get it done month...

Ordered 10x4 kg bags of Tesco own brand white rice. None available so received 40x1 kg boxes of UncleBens with price match.:D Ordered 5 x 4 litre bottles of Tesco own brand veg oil. None available so received a mix of (Bertolini?) 1 and 1.5 litre bottles to make up the same quantity. :D WOW! Awesom...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.

this week we will be doing a big shop again and starting to fill the kitchen, under the bed, under the cot, on top the wardrobe, shelves in the alcove in bedroom. ...its mayhem as theres no real storage ability in the house we are in...so you have to empty your socks and boxers out to make sure you...

Re: 2nd wave preps

If you haven't got your food stocks sorted by now you are almost too late IMO. The end of UK summer harvest looming fast, aluminium and steel can shortages reported across Europe and North America, lower than expected harvests across the US mid-west, Canada and Asia [rice] flood basin. Nothing to s...

Does anyone have any recommendations for large vacuum sealers? It is something I want to start doing but not sure what to use.

Something like this

ALDI or LIDL sell something like, once a year :)

Re: Vacuum packing and long term storage.

In my Sainbury's they are selling HUGE catering size bags of flour down to £5 from the £8 so I figured as I was going to buy a vacumn sealer anyhow, now might be a good time to do it! Thought it will be a good accompaniment to my dehydrator. I bought a 16kg bag of plain flour and split it into smal...

Re: Vacuum packing and long term storage.

I don't spend on mason jars as I don't see why the jar should cost more than the food. I get mine from Home Bargains for 59p :) Thanks for the advice and I will carry on as before. I've been doing a lot of reading and you start to doubt yourself as people have different levels of storage that suits...

Re: Those shielding until a vaccine is found

I am avoiding all shops and people, so thats semi shielding but I am trying to get out when I can for fresh air etc as I suspect a second wave will be arriving in the Autum so trying to 'enjoy' the calm between the storms... Likewise. Mostly shielding as a family until we are in a much lower risk e...

Re: Vacuum packing and long term storage.

I'm vacuum packing some of my foods at the mo but am wondering whether to add oxygen absorbers as well or is that just overkill. Would you also store vac bags inside a sealed container or just as is? I've looked at Mylar bags but not sure they are worth the price if I already seal them. Advice grat...
