Biodiesel

Hi All! Just wanted to ask about anyone's use of biodiesel. I can get hold of the goodies to make it and heat it. I'd love to have a generator I could run the house on. Unfortunately, being rather petite, I think driving the sort of car that can be converted is going to be impossible. Tend to be 1.6...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

Last weekend I got two hens that are laying well. We've also started picking blackberries and keeping a beady eye on crabapples, rosehips, hawthorns and damsons. Stocked up on toothpaste, toilet roll, casserole sauce, pie filling and coffee. btw, do rabbits make good "lawn mowers" I am trying to per...

Re: UN urges people to eat insects to fight world hunger

I've tried mealworms before. I rinsed them and fried them in hot oil. They die instantly and puff up looking and tasting like crispy noodles. Absolutely delicious with peanut butter or in a stir fry. Locusts r good as well. Freeze them for 20 mins to kill them. Pick off legs and cook thoroughly. Tas...

Re: No water

Hi Guys! On a slight aside from the water topic, has anybody got a mangle? A few years ago when we had the floods, it rained so much I found it difficult to dry anything. while we were ok for a water supply and I could wash things, getting stuff like jeans, towels and big sheets and quilt covers dry...

Re: Filtering grey water

When we were nearly flooded with all the rain a few years ago and the water supply was off, we used rainwater, river water and old bathwater to flush the loo with. If you need to remove fat, use an eco friendly washing up liquid or horse chestnut leaves foamed up - nature's washing up scrubbing brush.

Is anyone else on thyroxine?

My thyroid packed in years ago so I take thyroxine every day. Each repeat prescription gives me 3 months of pills. I will start to build up a stockpile as the shelf life is long on some of the packets but I wonder if I will get "regulated" in the same way as you asthma guys? will get back to you on ...

Re: Asthma

I found a book my mum had for years called grandmother's secrets. It's full of edible weeds and medicinal plants but the pictures are awful, so double check! It suggests inhaling the fumes of burning dried thyme but not sure.Definitely look that one up! A more recent little bird told me about planta...

Hi everyone! I'm Rachel from Gloucestershire. Been doing some prepping since 2000 and more seriously since 2007. I love foraging and have considerable knowledge of nutritional and herbal medicine as well as 20 years of First Aid experience. It's great to find similar people to swap ideas with.
