Re: Is growing food a waste of time?

The allotment is not far but obviously in a SHTF scenario these places will be targets, i tend to grow low value crops that require more than a "pick" to harvest. Some people grow strawberries and tomatos etc which are far to easy to quickly steal. . As has been said what's to stop anyone taking an...

Re: Derby Prepper

Hello and welcome from another newby. As to BOL 's being just north of Derby the first thought would be probably to head a little further north to the peak district but would that idea also occur to others near you and the great unwashed from such places as Manchester?

Re: skills list

Don't know if it can really be classed as a skill be I'd say the key one to have is adaptability. Any situation from unemployment to alien zombies surfing a tsunarmi can have a number of out comes and it is the ability to adapt to one's cercumstances that will pay out in the end.

Re: No water

As we live on an 'island' with sea all around us, I would have thought that the P2B would invest in some form of de-salination plant - De-salination is possible but generally is pretty energy intensive and costly to do, besides this island of ours does have a decent amount of fresh water falling ou...

Re: No water

Oh so I did have at least one guess right but thanks for clearing it up FC , interesting chart by the way. I suppose then as the problem lies in their flimsyness it is really a handlingproblem so they could at least in theory be used if enough care was exercised although it's probably better to foll...

Re: No water

Going ever so slightly off topic I've read on a link somewhere on this forum that water shouldn't be stored in plastic milk bottles although there wasn't any reason given. Is it because they are perhaps meant for single use so are made from a low grade plastic or maybe because the tops are not that ...

Re: Just wanted to say hello

Hello and welcome Tolerance, I'm fairly new myself and if you're anything like me you'll find this a very good forum.
I can't help thinking that with your views and attitude you'd make a valueable contribution to the moral compass thread in the how are you preparing forum.

Re: number of preppers in the world?

How many in the world ?Could be anywhere between far more than you think and nowhere as many as you would like. There are many like myself who hadn't even heard of the term this time last year or thereabouts but had nonetheless been doing exactly what preppers have been doing (I've explained in my i...

Re: EMPs and Cars

J Another point would be, how would you know when there is to be an EMP event? Me? I will use my bicycle.[/quote] Very true, I suppose it would be a case of keeping the car in its cage at any time that you are not using it assuming that the car is at home unless you could have another cage at work....

Re: EMPs and Cars

Oh right, I thought I'd seen some with metal floors but could very well be mistaken.
I suppose it's a question of how much work it would be to make a car sized faraday cage as app posed to making a cage to keep all the parts plus the time it would take to rebuild the car.
