Re: Easiest alcohol to make?

I've tried the wine kits in the past and it does save the messing around with the fruit. To be honest i moved away from them simply because i prefer the country wines as they are called. Far more tasty as well as being cheaper obviously. For beer it's probably better to go with a kit until one becom...

Re: Easiest alcohol to make?

Distillation aside and going back to the original question the easiest has to be cider and wine. I've got a few demijohns bubbling away now. Process is
Juice the fruit
Put it in a demijohn
Fit airlock
Let it ferment
and that's it.

Re: Food

Yes have to agree , they will go for veg or for that matter anything you want to grow. I look after the grounds on a couple of properties that have resident wild rabbits. They will try to eat any small plant or shoot. Older established plants are ok once the rabits realise they aren't worth eating b...

Re: What have we become?

We are social creatures. Mixing family tribe, to tribe, will now be ‘illegal’. So sad, so bonkers. But we can still go to the pub. ??? To a degree i can understand the seemingly disparity between home and pub. In our local there are several regular groups , we are generally all on speaking terms bu...

Re: Gadgets everywhere

This thread is nuts! Are you genuinely worried that because a washing machine has lots of red lights and an electronic control, you are at risk? Surely electricity continuity is the bigger risk to your standard of living? Or water supply? Or ability to buy detergent? That internet-of-things will be...

Re: Metal detector

Can you get hold of some debris netting that scaffolders use to catch the arrows behind the butts? Would it even work I wonder? I have some on the allotment, keep meaning to take the longbow up for a play... If you are thinking of the green nylon(?) stuff then no it doesn't work. We tried it some y...

Re: Power tools

I went to a tool show a while ago and looked at a dewalt battery mower. To be honest i was thinking they would be quieter although in reality they are as noisy as a petrol mower. The mower uses two 18v batteries and the guy demonstrating it said that i'd be able to use my existing batteries. "I don'...

Re: Power tools

I've used bosch , dewalt and hitachi cordless sds drills and have considered getting one but so far my corded tools have sufficed. I'm happier with corded in that they seem to live longer although that might be because people abuse cordless tools expecting them to be exactly the same as a corded job...

Re: Power tools

I've worked with several makes over the years and broadly agree that power tools were probably better in the past. Bosch , Makita and Dewalt have all seen a bit of a drop in quality . Saying that i still have power tools from all of them . My dewalt cordless drill i still use on an almost daily basi...

Re: No cost or low cost preps

Our local tip now has a re-use shop where all usable items like this are sold back to the public. Gas bottles, unused tiles and some other bits are also explicitly left in areas that allow others to help themselves. Everything sold or taken is one less thing to pay landfill tax on. Maybe your counc...
