Re: Wood lengths, compost, gate bolts, solar lights

Self employed handyman here and yes the shortage of materials has affected me. Decking boards for instance have been difficult to get around here as is a lot of treated wood. A building developer i work for has told me of other shortages such as plaster currently. I have a fair bit of stuff stored u...

Re: Waxed cheese question

Wine going "out of date" is something i tend to wind my sister in law up with. She seems to think a best before date is a turns to rat poison date but is perfectly happy to drink a ten year old wine. I had a load of homebrew a lot of which the labels had come off or become illegible . I started to t...

Re: Waxed cheese question

On the back of the freezing cheddar question,..... I still have a couple of wheels which have been in the fridge and keep looking at it wondering if it is still ok to use? It won't be safe to use. Or even handle. Send it to me and I'll dispose of it correctly and safely for you. Now i'm only guessi...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.

Got a trailerload of firewood myself , "paid" for by dismantling and moving a playhouse. Emptied one of the water butts which gives me the chance to take the tap off which was bunged up.

Re: 2nd wave preps

Apply the fear people had over lockdown and the resulting panic buying, and the memory of that , to Brexit. All it will take is the media to even hint at the chance of shortages, and folks will repeat that again. Could be an interesting one. Cheques stretching around the car parks with the social dist...

Re: 2nd wave preps

The other day my daughter who is 15 , fit and healthy said that she'd rather get it now and "get it over with" . She's seen the figures , the death rates and all the other information. There's every chance she might not know she had even had the disease and while she has concerns about her parents w...

Re: 2020 Potential Economic Collapse

With the current trend of making masks out of tee shirts and socks amongst other things perhaps if they'd have promoted that far earlier it would have had the same effect with practically no outlay from the country's coffers. Still hindsight and all that...

Re: 2020 Potential Economic Collapse

That is good idea for a stove. Will be trying that too. On the topic of Jerry cans I have filled up my motorbike tanks that have been empty over the winter but I can't see the logic of buying new jerry cans to take advantage of low fuel costs. If we're saving 30p a litre that's £1:50 per 5 litre ca...

Re: 2020 Potential Economic Collapse

It really is a very simple thing , a tin , some sand and petrol is basically it. Being the first time i'd actually tried it i was a little nervous to begin with so just made one with a baked bean sized tin , three quarters filled with sand ,i used kiln dried paving sand , and poured in what was prob...
