Re: Hi from Lancashire

Welcome! I'm from the northwest originally, tho I live down south now ... I've only just found this forum myself, its great, very practical, very down to earth, and a good mix.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

Love this thread! I've been away this week - going round touristy type sites, I couldn't help but notice how thick-walled lots of old churches are, and what good nick a lot of old castles and forts are in. Even the ruins, they give you easy foundations to put fences on ... only if you're forced out ...

Re: Sick children

Thanks for this! I've been away on holiday, and as far as prepping for real TSHTF scenarios goes, I want to specialise in first aid and medical care, so I've bookmarked this and will be working through it.

Count me in around bug out bags - I do have one, its true, but its much more based around "if there's a fire or a flood, what will I need to put an insurance claim in and get my life running again" - so its got all the normal documents, plus a toothbrush and toothpaste and handcream (they don't do t...

Re: Hello from Poole

Another woman here, single also - couple of counties over from you, but still on the south coast :) I'm amazed at the number of women here, but thinking about it, its not really surprising, once you get past the stereotype Rambo stuff. I moved into my house a couple of years ago now, and I ...

Re: Foil Blankets

My choice is both :D I've got the Poundland foil blankets now, and I just rescued a 100% wool tartan rug from my sister's garage. Its very old, from our childhood :D and its now clean and fresh and in my airing cupboard.

Re: Well written books, British not American!

Hi moocher! Erm, turns out I was summarising a bit too much  she has a page on it. I'll give you the highlights: - supermarket food is no cleaner than things you forage for, it could possibly be more polluted, its definitely more unknown. Supermarket labelling is just that, labelling. - curren...

Re: Well written books, British not American!

Su, thank you for that linkie - thats brilliant! I have another book to suggest, The Thrifty Forager by Alys Fowler - literally about foraging, in parks, along roads, in the countryside, and what to do with the things you find. She's brilliant. The list price is high, £17 or so - but last year there...

Re: a little winter heating advice please

For extra insulation, you can use those window films over the whole window, and after you've followed the instructions, use the hairdryer to get it taut. Use the window coverings of blinds and curtains etc before it gets fully dark, to keep in as much heat as possible. Layers of clothes, of course. ...
