Re: Gardening advice needed
I am going to order a book from Charles Dowding to have a read but I am not sure which option to go for. Should start small and buy his brand new book called Organic Gardening the Basics of No Dig Growing Volume 1 or should I buy the full three book set of No Dig, Composting and Grow Together? Hmmm ...

Re: Living with a non-prepper
With skills and knowledge she's just a prepper of a different type. At least she's not openly hostile and humours you. Yes she is fine about it all so I can't complain but as an eternal optimist she does not feel the need for prepping herself. I am extremely lucky though as she is so wonderful in s...

Re: Gardening advice needed
I have also ordered some squash seeds for next year too. That Charles Dowding website looks very interesting. I will have a proper read through it next week. Thanks. Dowding is very watchable and he makes a strong case for No-dig techniques which can be very seductive. But DYOR. If, like me you wil...

Living with a non-prepper
My OH thinks that I am mad for storing a few extra tins of food and rice. Luckily She is easy going and just lets me get on with it anyway. It does feel a bit lonely though sometimes not having any other prepper minded people to talk to. Does anyone else here live with a non-prepper and how do you c...

Re: Gardening advice needed
I find courgettes are great once you get them big enough to shrug off the slugs and plant them in very rich soil. Think old compost heap. In poorer soil they get powdery mildew. But they need picking several times a week as do runner beans. If you have less time, squash/pumpkin and drued beans like...

Re: Gardening advice needed
Thanks for your advice. I will research more into these suggestions. I really love courgettes too and will give them a try next year now. :D Courgettes have to be THE easiest thing to grow. Biggest chore is harvesting them and eating them. I have already ordered a few packets of courgette seeds. I ...

Re: Gardening advice needed
You could embrace some tactics that work when you aren't there although these can be expensive. Eg nematodes to reduce the slugs and snails. But if some thing has managed to wreck Jerusalem Artichokes you may have bigger pests and need to defend against rabbits or deer. Those may need electric fenc...

Re: Gardening advice needed
I have a bit of land... ...Can anyone suggest a method to grow some food using the minimum time input from myself as I can only spare about 1 hour each week to tend to them at the weekends. I have an allotment and dedicate just enough time and effort to it to not have it taken off me under 'use it ...
