Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

I got an email about air source heat pumps from my energy supplier. They had it on offer, with government grants, but it was still £6-7,000. I'm still paying for my new gas boiler. That cost me about £2,400 but it comes with a 10 year fixed all inclusive care plan for £13 a month. Also I've had mega...

Re: New to UK Prepping - Have some experience elsewhere

Greetings from Manchester. Most people on this forum seem to be adamant that they would never bug out. Personally I have a bugout bag that includes a bit of lightweight camping gear. There are several reasons you might need to bug out. 1. Authorities order evacuation of your area due to radiologica...

Re: Field Handbook for GB Wild Plants

Found some research on ID apps https://extension.illinois.edu/blogs/garden-scoop/2022-01-21-how-accurate-are-photo-based-plant-identification-apps extract: " What does the research say? Each phone app makes suggestions, often several, for species-level identification of the plant picture in que...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

Fixed two kitchen windows, well, joiner did. Put up a no-drill venetian blind in my room, in front of new window. Was a struggle, but got there in the end. It clamps into the rebate, not the window rubber type. Will see how that goes, I still have old curtains as well, but they are ready for the tip...

Definitely not replacing the hinges, the screws are buried under 150 years of paint. But I could fit those bolts. Do you hammer the bolt in or screw it in?

For the back door, I might just put a couple of bars across. Ugly, but secure.

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

Ordered something called a London Bar from Kickstop.co.uk. Seems legit, I did see a similar site with a different address. This bar screws to the door frame to beef it up. The London style has a bit to go round a Yale lock. It is also recommended to put longer screws in the metal plates that the bol...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

I'm wary about doing much in the garden. My back is easily put out. I did mow the lawn. I noticed next door's is long, not sure if he's just busy or deliberately letting it grow for the insects. I cut down all the weeds in my raised bed. My 5 security bushes are doing ok, despite limited light. They...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

I have a ‘what if?’ bag in the attic, I refuse to call it a ‘bug out bag’ for various reasons but it is more or less the same thing. I’m going to bring it down and go through it to make sure everything is working in it. Happy to take advice for the stock. So spare winter clothes. First aid kit. Por...
