Home defence

We are retired and have a reasonably sized bungalow where were could happily live if there was any emergency. We have about a year’s supply of food, water filtration system (we have three ponds), medicals, sleeping bags, emergency heating and cooking, etc. I’m a bit confused about self-defence aroun...

Re: Gas canisters

I have DOZENS wrapped in plastic ( originally) in fireproof boxes in a cool outbuilding ( and fire safe) . 12 years old and perfect. In fact I’ve been reminding my wife how to cook-in an emergency with the same, and the methylated spirit cooker too. ;) The fireproof boxes idea looks interesting. Cou...

Thanks everyone.

They look fine and are stored in a heated outhouse.

Gas canisters

I've had some of these for four years or so: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Canisters-Canister-Blowtorch-Cartridge-Cylinders/dp/B09RB9TL9T/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=3BO9OCWQZB698&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.yWWRb2WL7zgSBF4JasPZz_uYpIaLtTSi-J96d3AkjpbPUAqCiYUocGSbKNg2dQN9JPJaZEG9SUmlFSDZROp6W3K8X5TTvgDKL7VV0PmYoF5uOlS...

Re: Best head torch on AA battery?

I've been looking for a head torch and was surprised to find that some of them are described as having 'motion detection' on them. Presumably this is to switch them on and off? Has anyone got one of these?

I'm always a bit wary of having techie stuff on simple gadget, so does it work OK?

Butter/Bertolli

We have four packs of each in the freezer which we rotate. I was considering increasing the stock a bit but OH was concerned about it not keeping too well.

Anyone any views on this please? if OH is correct are there any practical alternatives?

Thanks

Re: Nuclear threat

Precheck recommended dosage, because if tshtf, the man on the internet might not be online. Great advice jennyjo1, and something that I had never considered. The NHS has a site referring to potassium iodide https://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/supply-of-potassium-iodide-65mg-tablet...

Re: Nuclear threat

Thanks for the replies. This is what I expected after a bit of Googling but it is always worth asking.

We have been well stocked up on everything that we might need for a year or so. We constantly rotate and update our stocks.

Nuclear threat

There is talk in the papers that Putin will blow up a nuclear power station in The Ukraine. These stories come along on a regular basis, often on 'slow news' days I suspect. However unlikely I can't discount it, and have two lots of potassium iodide 65mg, 60 tablets in each. Is there anything else t...
