Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.

Managed to do the vast majority of the Christmas shopping last weekend, I had predicted the lockdown coming and wanted to be ahead of the game, (we have 4 children) it’s a good job really because they are closing non essential shops and our local retail park now looks like the last days of Rome. Th...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.

Things are okay here in Central West Scotland. Went into several big supermarkets yesterday. Stock is sufficient. Then again we are in tier3 at the moment might change if it goes to lockdown. On first lockdown back in March You couldn't get toilet roll anywhere. I had a compressed roll in my prep ba...

Re: Whetstones

Wow! Never knew sharpening a Knife could be so complicated. When I get into work tomorrow I will have to check we are doing it right with a simple sharpening steel.   lol. Clearly a lot of people have their own ways of sharpening to good effect. I suppose I will need to try differen...

Re: Whetstones

I've posted this before : Waterstones in various grits up to 8000 - very good but takes a while to learn Lansky guided sharpener - gives a good, razor sharp, polished edge. Easy to use. Worksharp electric sharpener - very easy to use but if not careful you can remove too much steel (I rounded the t...

Re: Whetstones

Thanks for replies. My dad had a butchers steel. Remember as a kid he would use it to sharpen the kitchen knives, and our neighbours :D Is there not a skill to using one ??? . Need something that will also sharpen my chisels and planer blades. There are so many products out there that you could buy ...

Whetstones

Hi people, What do you use to sharpen your knives and other sharp instruments. I recently bought a whetstone, not the dearest, £40 of an internet company. It has 4 different grit sizes. The highest grit being 6000. I'm okay in terms of sharpening items. Used a diamond stone to good effect before. I ...

Re: Power tools

Nice drill korolev. You will get loads of pleasure using an sds drill. :D I have built up my tools over the last 20 years. I have most of the Ryobi one+ range. Very pleased with them, especially the impact driver. Makes light work out of using 100mm screws. Really enjoyed using a scroll saw for seve...

Re: Torches.

ForgeCorvus,

I have never heard of Nebo torches.

Looked at the links, then went on their website.

Torches look well made and are reasonably priced. I particularly like the look of their 6000 lumens torch. :o

I don't think I could justify buying another torch though I already own 9.

Re: Torches.

I have the Olight r50 pro seeker torch. Not so much a working torch, but it is one hell of a bright torch. On full beam it can light up a full size football pitch. I take the dog up to the field next to me at night and it lights up the whole area. Superb bit of kit. Word of caution though on full be...
