Re: New Compass

If you can map read to a high level then yes, if not do not worry to much, just remember mag to grid get rid and grid to mag add. It also depends if your maps are up to date, the info will be printed on there somewhere. Nice one pseudonym. What does mag to grid get rid and grid to mag add? I haven'...

New Compass

Hi guys,
I just bought a new Suunto MC-2G Compass.
My question is, Do i have to adjust the declination before using it?
I have read the declination is a big thing if you are using a map but i'm not sure if it has to be done before using it even if i'm not using a map.

Hope you guys can help.
Thanks.

Re: Reccomend a Bergen for me.

I'm hoping to god the days of me having to hump a full sized Gergen are long over :). I'm down to a Rush 12 for EDC and a Rush 24 for GHB duty. sadly I think I would really struggle to do 5 miles these days carrying much over 20 pounds. Funny you say that. I have been out the Army for 20 years and ...

Re: Reccomend a Bergen for me.

Hi guys, hope you're all healthy. Just picked up my Italian pack yesterday. First impessions, very impressed, it's a monster. There is no doubt this will leave my old British bergen in the dust. I only payed $99 NZ which is 48 British pounds. It's second hand but in good condition. They are made in ...

Re: Reccomend a Bergen for me.

I do have several ex-military packs (and not enough time to put any mileage on any of them). The German one is only about 60ltrs, but has a handy pocket on the spine to put the issue kip-mat in so it acts like a frame (I haven't tried that as I don't have the mat) https://images.esellerpro.com/2296...

Re: Reccomend a Bergen for me.

I think you can get away with a DPM pack. They look like what they are, cheap hard-wearing kit for bushcraft-on-a-budget or DofE starters. The odd bit of cammo doesn't scream 'Squaddie-wannabe'..... A full matching set does. I agree. It's not my first choice of colour but i'll take it for the price...

Re: Reccomend a Bergen for me.

Tried Ex mil packs still not as good as decent civvy ones I ended up with a 5:11 rush 72 I have to disagree with you there. Each to their own I wore army bergens for many a year and hated everything about them except their durability. I can sacrifice a little comfort for durability, size, and price...

Re: Reccomend a Bergen for me.

i have a 120 litre plce ex army bergen never lets me down had it for years and still going strong.... I wish when I left the Army I took my bergen with me and they could charge me for it. Those bergens were almost industructible. The only thing I don't like about the ex army bergens is most are DPM...
