Re: It's still about.

dizzydays - sorry to hear that, I hope you get over it all soon. I still take precautions - masked in airport and on the plane, even on busy buses on holiday. I've had covid once, and it took two months from my life. With the worries for long term health over repeat infections coming to the fore, I...

Re: It's still about.

Well...I've gone and got the darned thing this week. Ironic after going through the thick of the pandemic in and out of hospital, having major surgery, having to be flown home and not able to eat for 6months and didn't catch even a cold. Now here we are fit and well on a healthy diet and wham. I thi...

Re: Dog bark

Had a relative with one years ago - can't remember where she bought it, but it was basically an ornament which sat by the door and barked if it detected motion. It was very loud and realistic, but did drive everyone mad cos of having to pass it to get to the stairs (small house). They must be still ...

Re: Bone broth

Been doing chicken bone broth for years. I usually put it in the fridge overnight, skin the fat off and freeze the jelly in either bags if I want soup quantity, or ice cube trays then bags for small stock cubes...

Re: Knitters

Wool Warehouse has Lopi/Pllotulopi at £7.59 per 100g, good colour range. I use them quite often, can recommend them. Thanks! I have used them a lot but waiting on the Lopi / Lettlopi. I might try one of the chunkier ones. Stock up on nice thick Icelandic wool and the global warming is sure to accel...

Re: Knitters

I've been able to get Lopi online at wool warehouse until about a year or so ago. They've just started to get some blacks and greys in but there is normally a choice of over 40 colours so obviously there's a supply problem. I got 'Icelandic Knits, 18 Lopapeysa Sweaters' for Crimbo so I've been drool...

Re: Knitters

How did I not see this knitting thread?? Big knitter here :D I can crochet but not often as it hurts my hands more than knitting (rheumatoid arthritis). I like knitting in the Icelandic/Norwegian wool but it's getting very difficult to get the Lopi now - I don't know what the problem is with their p...

Re: Bio fuel mini stove TRANGIA

Have to agree! I had a nightmare 6 months following surgery where I had no furniture and no stove for cooking. Fortunately I wasn't able to eat much, but all the food I did manage to eat was cooked on that little trangia. I used it again a few times when I moved into an attic with no cooker but ther...

Re: Green as grass new member.

Well - for something a bit different than the batteries/torches/candles thing, I've been looking at food. I've been collecting recipes for food that is cheap/healthy and that I can batch cook /freeze. Large parts of the world exist on rice /beans and with a bit of planning for spices/fresh veg that'...
