Long distance Walkie Talkies

Hello! I could really do with some advice as this subject is a weakness for me. Personally I don’t see the point in keeping a general radio to listen to others etc. It doesn’t fit into my personal plans and focus. After a brief discussion with our group they agreed that our priorities are the same a...

Re: do you have any strange health remedies?

Not sure if this is strange enough but...Aloe Vera on pretty much any cut/sting/burn after its been cleaned. It is also soothing as aftersun. The plant you can even cut a leaf and put it on directly. If can add a drop (only a drop) of lavender essential oil (ensure you mix well in a bowl with a spoo...

Re: Coal briquettes

I've tried the paper bricks ... Even doing that they still required an awful lot of drying out , all takes time and space and i frankly found that the paper logs are far more inefficient than actual wood . Added to which there's a dustbin of mush and it's a messy job and it wasn't a huge job to kno...

Re: Bunker. Norfolk. £25k

Not sure if anyone has noticed, but todays teenagers are bunker trained already. That made me chuckle. But no I think that’s totally dependant on games consoles, tv/dvd and computers/internet, if there isn’t the power to spare to run those and the internet is not working as it should then I think t...

Re: Bunker. Norfolk. £25k

Even if SHTF that bad, realistically I’m not sure that bunker would be big enough for a couple long-term. Storage of supplies seems to be lacking and “cabin fever” would set in very quickly unless they had specifically trained for it. I know it would probably be for waiting out the worst, but even t...

Re: Coal briquettes

Awesome - thanks for all the info, jansman and Nurseandy. :) I have some magazines I can do that with, will have to just keep on experimenting with the briquettes :? We don’t have a log burner where I rent, I just wanted to learn a new skill and use them on the fire pit we have, so I have time...

Re: Coal briquettes

Thank you jansman. :) Just spoke to my uncle who seems to think the problem is the type of paper I have used, something about newspaper is better as it is coarser and rougher. Is there no way I can use the office paper? I don't buy newspapers anymore and i seems a bit pointless to buy them to shred ...

Re: Coal briquettes

What coal dust to shredded paper ratio do you do? :?: I tried making some sawdust briquettes as I had sawdust on hand and I do not think I got the consistency right :S :? They are currently drying in a greenhouse, but I think they will crumble and break when I come to pick them up and store them. :c...

Re: Anyone growing winter crops?

Apparently it doesn’t work with carrots  I thought it failed cos I did something wrong. I was planning on retrying with a heirloom variety as I didn’t understand how they...had little carrot babies?! But this just proves my naivety as a gardener, the seeds come from the flowers before ...
