Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

Today I tested a homemade wonder bag. Potatoes: Brought chopped up potatoes (for mash)to the boil with lid on for 6 mins. Put straight in wonder bag, although I did line with an emergency foil blanket in case of spills. I left it about 7 hours as I started it too early. The potatoes are cooked, stil...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

I have put silver bubble wrap insulation on both sides of my loft hatch, this has already help retain heat. Not a bad idea. But I hate going up there because of all the fibreglass, plus I don't feel very good on ladders these days. I could maybe do the outside. One room is not under the attic, has ...

Re: Prepping for this winter's potential electricity crisis

I've been using individual solar lights for years now, and use ambient light in the bathroom at night. Most rooms have solar lights, which can be used for activity for a short time, then low light. We have a motion usb light in the hall and getting some more. Multiple battery, wind up and chargeable...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 8.

Just starting to get back into my preps after losing my mum earlier this year. I have set up a "bee prepared" wallet for my youngest who is going off to secondary school. She loves bees and takes an interest in being prepared. Her mini kit includes: Emergency money for the bus in case her ...

Re: Preparing for the loss of a loved one.

Thanks Arzosah, I will look that up. Mum gave me permission to tell the girls last night. They are pre-teen and teen. It was hard, but mum and step dad are being very positive and practical. My close friends know and we have been chatting, my eldest is autistic, and tends to react differently which ...

Re: Preparing for the loss of a loved one.

Thank you, We have experienced loss before and long term illness that wasnt long in the end. That was so hard (still is at times) but I fear this will be different. We tend to come together as a family, obviously that's not possible at the moment. My mum has asked me to hold off telling the kids unt...

Preparing for the loss of a loved one.

Hi, Where bugging in we are ok (always room for improvements), but how do we prepare ourselves for loss? The basic ideas of having things to distract, but is there a way to prepare for this? I'm waiting on news about my mum, I don't think it's good but still hoping for a positive outcome. I have 2 g...

Re: The Spread

I'm a huge fan of zombie fiction, but ones with a story, not just gore. I also like crime, fantasy (vampire, witch, fae etc) and have recently read a selection of Margaret Atwood, although found these quite disturbing. I do like apocalyptic but feel safer reading zombies as it is fiction and not wit...
