Re: Winter.

Thanks all! - really helpful advice. I had no idea that you should ease a new stove in gradually - I’ll start with a smaller fire. I’ll probably buy in a few logs for this winter to get us started and then will keep an eye out for local wood/pallets going free. Is there any way to ‘test’ wood for ho...

Re: Winter.

We’ve just had the gas fire taken out and replaced with a multi fuel stove in preparation for the winter. I’m desperate to get it fired up but it’s not yet cold enough in the evenings  I’m toying with the idea of briquettes instead of logs but it doesn’t have quite the same appeal. Has anyone u...

Re: What are you dehydrating?

This is super helpful - thanks so much for the step-by-step instructions. We also use Quorn mince so that’s good to know. I might try some this weekend. I have a new vacuum sealer to try as well—it’s all very exciting. Planning to do a shop and see what fruit and veggies are on offer. I’m just kicki...

Re: What are you dehydrating?

Thanks Deeps - I've found loads of helpful vids on YouTube. I'm trying another batch of bananas and apples, then onions  I'm not sure if you've answered this already but, how do you dehydrate bolognese?! Do you lay it out on parchment paper first to stop it falling through the gaps? What do y...

Re: Water butts / prepper porn

Ha ha! I have ladders above mine too,and yes, they are locked. Our ladders are in the garage, but the main doors are the 'barn door' type, with a hasp & staple lock, so quite easy to break in with a good set of bolt cutters. I considered locking the ladders to the wall, but instead I've in...

Re: Water butts / prepper porn

Here's the article: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6025179/Mans-obsession-storing-rainwater-butt-neighbours-jokes-hes-laughing-now.html Bad opsec though - the neighbours will be round Yes and unless he's got that ladder locked to the wall, it's an invitation to any would-be-burglars! We don...

Re: Kelvedon Hatch Nuclear Bunker

Great article Arzosah, thanks for sharing. I paid a visit to Kelvedon Hatch just two weeks ago. I live less than 15 miles away, so it's on my radar in the case of SHTF ;) Although having said that, it's not quite so 'secret' any more - there are brown road signs everywhere that read 'Secret Nuclear ...

Re: What are you dehydrating?

Well, I took your advice Deeps and got a dehydrator. Started simple with some apples and bananas. I added some cinnamon to the apples and put them an a kilner jar. The problem is, they're so delicious, I've been eating them on my cereal each morning! I'm going to have to make some more. The bananas ...

Re: Swiss Army Knife "Huntsman"

You need to have 10 posts before you can PM mate, maybe H can PM you some details for an email or the like. Either that or get posting.
Haha! Thanks Deeps, better step up my game :)
