Re: Ration Challenge

LOL. I'm taking the ration challenge. But dammit, I'm buying carbonated water. I'm on day 2 now on just rice and water - Saving the best till last. Lessons for the Prepper in me:- Rice goes a very long way.. 90g is a feast. ... But flavour, any flavour is essential. We need variety. Buy more flavou...

Re: Ration Challenge

Very First World- and middle- class- lets- do- the guilt- trip- and feel better about our priveliged situation,... You find yourself in that place, you eat ANYTHING! ... AND what would be traded, scrounged and foraged. I do have enough cynicism to acknowledge that it is indeed a pathetically middle c...

Ration Challenge

Here we are stashing baked beans, caviar and fine wines..... How about trying life on a typical UN war-zone ration pack? I recently stumbled across a charity fundraiser that sends you a typical crisis ration pack, as might be given to a war-zone refugee. The idea is to get yourself sponsored to surv...

Re: Tin Can Cook

Received my copy today. I'm amused and satisfied by the book, but found a few of the recipes rather silly.... Home made baked beans: Start with a can of baked beans and rinse off the tomato sauce under a tap. Then make some tomato sauce from a tin of tomatoes... And later for a chicken curry: Start ...

Re: New to the prepping world!

Welcome! I’m also fairly new to the prepping world and also to this forum. You’ll find some great Information if you scroll through the individual sections. Hi Welcome HH. Yes. Tinned food is almost perfect several years after the printed BBE date, 3 years past wouldn't bother most preppers at all....

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 6.

Thanks Jenny, I'll give them a go. I've tried the enhancer too, more with lager but I've not been able to produce something I'd drink instead of the stuff the professional's do. I'm happy to compromise to an extent but I'm a lot more of a snob than I was in my early 20's when I first did home brew....

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 6.

Have you got any recommendations Jenny, the wine I've tried over the years has been pretty rank. Hi Deeps, Historically, I've made craft wines with a mix of raisins, grape juice concentrates and... ordinary sugar, with maybe some magic ingredients such as dried apricots, elderberries, boiled potato...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 6.

A gesture towards Heat and Fuel reserves. Just done an ALDI run to get my Gas stove for a tenner and a supply of gas bottles. Then onward to screwfix to buy 3 20l jerry cans, which will soon be full of Diesel. Last but not least, set 5g of beer and 5 gallon of Cabernet brewing. Got to keep rotating ...

Re: Augmenting the stash: Pesto etc.

Pesto is my latest next big thing DAMMIT! I had opened 2 jars of pesto on 13 and 15 May: 1 red, 1 Green In just 13 days, both had LOTS of visible mould growing on the top and inside the lids. I was gobsmacked! I'm not one for putting opened jars in the fridge, but I never expected such quick decay....
