Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

Thank you for your good wishes. Just home from being jabbed. I was feeling really rubbish as I'd forgotten my mask and the man in front of me in the queue was VERY UNHAPPY to have me coughing behind him. So I slouched into the room to be jabbed and in making conversation told the nurse what happened...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

I haven't done much in the way of prep this week apart from topping up stocks of loo roll and noodles. I did my first aid at work last week and someone had a STREAMING cold which I've caught (I've tested a lot for covid!) and it's messing with my asthma big time. Since this summer has not been good ...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

I've been generally topping off supplies recently. Not too much though due to lack of money and like Lil, lack of space. I think today, I'll have a bit of a tidy up of my pantry and under sofa storage and see if there are any glaring gaps which will need filling in when I next get paid. Tomorrow and...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

I've been buying more batteries and I am waiting on delivery of a battery storage bag from that Big River place (thanks Yorkshire Andy for posting that these things exist!). I dug out my fake Trangia and had a go at making my tea with it earlier this week - I definitely need more practice  I'm ...

Re: Prepping for this winter's potential electricity crisis

Does anybody else practise moving around their house in the dark? Due to an overly sensitive bladder, I'm up at least twice a night. My bathroom is the other side of the house from my bedroom. I am religious at making sure the route is clear so I can navigate in the (almost) dark without falling ov...

No! It’s a volcano stove! OUTSIDE! A great piece of kit, and one I have used for years. 1 litre of HOT water in 3.5 minutes. Great!
Ah. When I googled volcano stove, I got something that looked like a much higher powered (and scary!) version of the spirit burner in a trangia. Now I know :)

If you're using a Trangia indoors with the door open, make sure there's nothing flammable for at least a couple of feet around. Because the flame can blow sideways in a draught. I think they burn a bit stronger once they get going properly.
Crikey! Good to know!

Re: Prepping for this winter's potential electricity crisis

I did a stress test this weekend. Trangia was part of it. We stood it on the top of the stove,as it is Simple methylated spirit. It’s not like ,say, putting a volcano stove in the house - yes that has happened! :o I had to google what a volcano stove was - apt name! I'd be the one who lost their ey...

Re: Prepping for this winter's potential electricity crisis

This is the official plan from HMG https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/electricity-supply-emergency-code Basically we can expect rolling power cuts lasting 3-4 hours at a time. Frequency will depend on the degree of shortage. If we run more than 50% short the cuts will roll together and last...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 9

I'm off to go collect my niece's birthday present from Argos shortly. I added a set of 2 camping lights and a couple of large multipacks of batteries to the order to make the journey a little more efficient  Interestingly, one of the reviews on the camping lights said they were buying them ...
