Re: Hospital Bag

Having been in hospital for 5 days recently when I gave birth (drove me nuts being cooped up). I'd certainly pack some PJ's and some slippers that you don't mind getting ruined/chucking away as not all hospitals will provide and you don't want to be walking barefoot on hospital floors. Some snacks a...

Re: Mental Health.

Mental Health is such an important topic and although easily overlooked does seem to now be getting some deserved attention. As someone who has recently lost a colleague at work through suicide plus the fact I'm expecting a baby boy & the suicide rate in young males is horrifying this subject is...

Harvested potatoes too early - can I salvage?

Hi Folks, I know we have some super gardeners on here and I'm after a little bit of advice. I over estimated how ready my potatoes were and have harvested them and very annoyingly other than 3 ok sized ones all the others were really small. I had waited for the foliage to die back and go yellow so t...

Re: The Death of Grass

I second (or third) that suggestion - only read it for the first time last year and enjoyed it. Considering the book was written in the 50's its fascinating how accurate I still think most of it is, especially in the current climate re crops etc. It certainly isn't a particularly cheery read though ...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 5.

Thanks for all the congrats folks and the helpful advice. Featherstick that book sounds an interesting read so I've added it to my Amazon wish list so I don't forget what its called. I'm totally on board with the second hand side of things - I hate waste and the whole consumerism thing that goes wit...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 5.

My normal preps have taken a bit of a nose dive in recent weeks after I discovered I was pregnant! Its our first child so is rather exciting though included in that is some poop your pants thoughts too! Therefore, other than keeping up with my gardening/harvesting I've re-directed my prepping toward...

Re: Over focussing on the obvious Medicine supplies

This list is great - most of the items on it I already have (yay me) - however, I got caught out earlier this week when I needed calamine lotion for a heat rash I've developed due to the hot weather and I'm currently unable to use normal skin rash creams. I asked my husband to get me some and he had...

Re: And sow it begins.

I'm rather excited as this year I've increased what I'm going to be growing (but tried not to get too over the top). This is going to be my first year growing my own potatoes, carrots, basil and strawberries. Going to continue with my dwarf apple trees and my rhubarb which I've grown previous years....

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 5.

Fitted an extra solar light to my driveway as one wasn't enough (used my new fabulous drill I got for Christmas too :D ) Am still a novice gardener so have done some research and am trying to make a rough monthly plan or what I need to do when and being able to plan a little better to get more out o...
