There was a newspaper article a couple weeks ago stating that most 'middle class' families would struggle if they were hit by a sudden £500 bill and would have to borrow to get through it. I use it in soups and stews to boost the nutritional value - long term vegetarianism makes you a bit more creative about about things like that.
