Re: Anyone hunting or fishing these days?

I do hunt rabbits on a semi regular basis.
Loads of them here, and many crofters are happy to give permission to shoot on their land.
I hope to hunt geese as well, but will need to get a shotgun or larger calibre rifle added to my fac for that.

Re: Is ,or has, anyone used their preps in a full- on way?

I suppose I have used my preps 'for real' twice. First was, like at lot of people, during the pandemic\lockdown. My wife and I both kept working during the whole thing, and things didn't really change for us except we vastly reduced our shopping trips, and we tried to eliminate any unnecessary conta...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 10

My main prep this week has been putting a massive tarp over the wood and peat stack. Our recent powercut caught me out big time as a lot of the peat was still a little damp. Digging into to middle for dry stuff during a blizzard was not an experience I wish to repeat. Tomorrow I will move about 2 we...

Re: Our 5 day powercut in December 2022.

Britcit, that's really interesting, thank you for taking the time. How about water? Did it keep flowing? I'm assuming it did, or you would have mentioned it, but I'm just wondering :) And did the chickens cope? They seem to have strayed quite a lot  The water kept flowing yes. I did keep an ey...

Re: Our 5 day powercut in December 2022.

Sounds like you done well. Have you thought about usb heated items ? I'm currently wearing usb heated fingerless gloves. I got them 2 days ago and testing them out. It was a pack of 2 and 1 set feels hotter. I already have a body warmer that I use in the freezer at work -20 to -25ish. I can feel th...

Re: Our 5 day powercut in December 2022.

Sorry about the.above post, it looks like I just threw the info on the page rather than give it any kind of structure. I will try to breaking down a bit to be clearer. Comms. Like I said, we only really expected a 12 hour powercut as that's pretty normal for us this time of year. Once we hit 18 hour...

Our 5 day powercut in December 2022.

On the afternoon of Monday 12th December we lost power and were without for 5 days, it not coming back on until late afternoon that Saturday. As promised, this post is a breakdown of what we did, what worked and what didnt. (Please move if this would be better placed elsewhere on here ;) ) My first ...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 8.

We finally got our new peat bank allocated to us, so we have spent many hours over the last 2 weeks up there. Digging peat for winter fuel is heavy work at first but well worth the effort. We normally burn wood that I can source almost for free, but peat burns better and for longer. Hopefully we ca...

Re: Who's getting the vaccine

I got a letter over the weekend. Apparently the vaccine centre here have been trying to call me to book an appointment. They were probably using my mobile number. No signal for miles where I love lol. Anyway, have called and left a message and should get in quite quick. I fall into the 40 - 49 age g...
