Re: Next Stage First Aid Course

I am EFAW (Emergency First Aid at Work) trained, basic but enough for me to deal with a client who was choking on a piece of chicken, others who self-injure and the various day to day stuff which happens at work and at home. I would like to increase my training but am unsure what would be the next ...

Re: Quantities of medicines

Having worked in a community pharmacy 95% of people that come in for pain relief have bo idea what cocodamol is. But they know what nurofen and panadol is! Branding is terrible. We are crap in this country at self care. So if u walk in asking for cocodamol they're probably just shocked u know whatb...

Quantities of medicines

I know we have talked about the availability of OTC medicines before but how many should you stock? If you think about something like paracetamol. 2 tabs max 4 times a day. So 8 tabs a day per person. 16 in a box it will last two days. So you get the flu/cold and take for three days to help symptoms...

Re: Over focussing on the obvious Medicine supplies

Interesting observations about how transition from so-so availability to no availability. I have the same sort of expectation for things like coffee and other items that we have no choice but to import from outside Europe, just in case we have massive international trade disorder or war. Curious, w...

Re: Prepping for everything but a heart attack

Health education is crap in the UK. Crap food and lack of exercise cause most of these issues but I have seen otherwise fit and healthy 45 year olds having a heart attack. Im not sure the aspirin will fix the heart attack but will go some way to stop further damage. Aspirin is always given in combin...

Re: First Aid Training

I will be doing "disaster days" in the new year and not charging the earth for it. As part of my BEAT bystander emergency aid training courses which I started running FREE of charge after Grenfell and the terror attacks in london and manchester, I realised that training was good but actua...

Re: First Aid Training

insurance or liability is an interesting one isn't it! Doing your best for someone but fear of being sued for doing so. Its few and far between I'm sure but still a worry. Easier to have nothing to do with it unless its close friends or family needing help I suppose

Re: First Aid Training

Jaw lift for when it's unfeasible to put the pt into the recovery position to maintain vtge airway It got mentioned but never taught it as "it's not in the course" Jaw lift or jaw thrust is good at maintaining a 'clean' airway and enables the tongue to be lifted out of the way whilst keep...
