Re: Rodenticide

I can't use poisons, we have too many cats, dogs, chickens, ducks, pigs and visiting raptors. So, I shoot the rats at every opportunity, gas them with the exhaust from my little tractor, and recently have been dropping bangers from crow scarer ropes down their holes. I don't think the bangers are ef...

Re: Painted stones

The advantage of the red painted stones is that they are easier to find after you've thrown them at the birds :D

Re: Whetstones

I have a few Mora craftlines, nice sharp knives, good shape, excellent plastic sheath. Recently I bought two Mora Heavies, very similar to the originals, but a bit, errr, heavier.

I bought stainless and carbon, if buying again I'd just get the stainless.

Re: Tiny house

This house was built without permission years ago, the council ordered it demolished, owner refused, public outcry and it is still there, now for sale - but I'd bet it still has a demolition order. http://www.thesmallholdingcentre.co.uk/site/go/particularsPDF?propertyID=554838 Apparently it was spot...

Re: So,have your preps been useful?

Our preps have saved us much trouble. We haven't actually suffered at all so far, and will probably weather another lockdown just as well. As Covid gathered pace in early 2020 we made the trip to B&Q and spent nearly £400 on paints, the next two months we completely decorated our holiday cottage...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.

I'll be topping up my petrol containers soon. I have run them down through summer, via the lawnmower, strimmer and chainsaw, so now they need filling for potential generator use.

Virus Masks

I'm guessing we've all got at least a couple of FFP3 masks in our kit. If not, there's still time, not everybody is out of stock, yet. However, these disposable masks are not limitless, and the factories producing them might be closed due to staff shortages. So - we might want to think about how to ...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 7.

I saved the stones from last years plum harvest and buried them together in a large tub of potting compost. I'm hoping that exposure to the frosts will stratify them, if it works and they start to germinate I'm going to plant them in hedges. I started loads of raspberry cuttings too, gave them away ...
