Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 6.

Cleric: You need to get yourself a fruit picker pole, they come in three basic types And Free https://cdn.instructables.com/F0Y/C0QJ/GSJ56ZO6/F0YC0QJGSJ56ZO6.MEDIUM.jpg The free one looks nifty. I should really get one of these for the lower branches - but the tree is taller than the house. I'm exp...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 6.

Yesterday my dehydrator arrived and I tested it out overnight on some pears. My new garden has a massive pear tree, too high to pick them, so I have a lot of windfalls to try to process. I can see I am going to love having this new piece of kit - jerky recipes next, I think...

Re: Stocking up.

Who can remember the 70s, where bread and bog rolls suddenly disappeared off the shelves? I can remember the 70s very well. I studied for my O levels by the light of a Tilley lamp, and when I started to buy my own groceries when I lived in a rented house as a student, I can still remember the horro...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 5.

This was a prep of sorts: a lot of intensive interviewing leading to the offer of a new job. My current more or less fixed term contract was coming to an end in a couple of months and as my role requires living onsite, that meant finding a new workplace and a new home. And the new home will mean con...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 4

Renewing old stored water at the moment - after a few months of not doing much (horrible work stress) I have been sorting through my kit and stored food, organising things better and noting expiry dates and so on. Come to think of it, I think I have escaped from the main source of the horrible work ...

Re: Any Preppers in London?

I didn't plan my life as a social experiment, but I grew up in a cottage in the middle of nowhere, could not see other houses, one grocer/sub post office a mile away, etc., and moved via small town to university towns to London in the 1980s. I've been there ever since except one 3-year stint in a sm...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 4

More weed-eating experiments: in which I discovered I love sow thistles: mild taste and lovely texture. Could be a gateway weed to all sorts of other weeds ;-) I made some stock by simmering a couple of duck legbones with a little flesh left on for ages, then added chopped potato and simmered anothe...

Re: Eating out of date food.

On that front has anyone seen a site that lists these dates as estimates? I keep this link in my favourites :) http://www.stilltasty.com/ thanks for that, I've just had a look and expect I'll refer to it again - I'd noticed frozen salmon not lasting anything like as long as other frozen fish, so it...

Re: No cost or low cost preps

On the subject of ladies sanitary products and the exhorbitant cost of them and don't even get me started on the VAT!!! I found an article some years back about making your own re-usable items. This would fit in well with your frugal store cupboard. http://tipnut.com/free-pattern-for-washable-femin...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 4

Eating weeds (very Lenten). I've discovered that I really like bittercress, at least the variety I found, cleavers steam OK, and I would have to be literally starving to eat dandelion leaves again, even steamed after soaking in several different changes of water. I mean LITERALLY literally starving,...
