Re: Get out of debt...?

The rent on my second house doesn't even cover my maintenance costs, let alone the mortgage. . My mortgage is already higher than the rental income, but I justify it because I just have to hand on to the house like this for another fifteen years before it should generate me a small income. Christ o...

Re: Get out of debt...?

Not sure whether it's possible with UK mortgages, but it's quite normal here to take a house loan over the maximum period (say 25 years), fix your payments and then overpay the balance as and when you have something spare. The benefits are twofold: 1) if things get tough, you haven't already committ...

Re: Toilet paper substitute

Re: My Go Bag/BOB/GHB

Excellent exercise - wise to try out your kit. Maybe two too many knives? Nice to see a sitting mat - they pack flat, weight nothing and keep your bottom dry and apparently can help prevent piles. Add a lightweight pair of pliers (I find them invaluable on multi-day hikes) You can alleviate the swea...

An umbrella and some rubbery/neoprene work gloves. Perfect if you need to change a tyre or fit snow chains in a wind/rain/cold/blizzard.

Re: Car kit

How small is small? I read something by the aa a minimum of 1kg powder for a small car they can be very effective I like Germany's idea of every car having them in the event of a crash on a main road 6 cars gives the same amount of extinguishing power as a commercial extinguisher that you would fin...

Re: Car kit

On the subject of fire extinguishers in cars... I used to have one but then read an article (written by a fireman I think), which changed my mind and I took the fire extinguisher out... The gist of the article was, 1) The small extinguishers people might have in a car are not that great, they have l...
