Re: Realistic BOV choices
I've been thinking about this for a while and one of my concerns is modern electronics. This leads me to something old and diesel. Like late 80s early 90s Peugeot / ford / Landy / merc stuff. It doesn't rely on fragile ecus and components that can easily be fried. Basic Diesel engines will keep goin...

Re: TEOTWAWKI / Survival Movies
I liked the non religious content of Noah. There was a definite nod to alternative theories in the scenes of the "old" gold mines and pipe work.

Re: Hens,eggs and all that
Thanks stasher. A friend of the mrs was looking after one of her neighbours chickens, she said they've wrecked her garden and they stink? I've not noticed a smell around chickens, maybe she just resented doing it. But it has put the mrs off a bit. Maybe we should go and spend some time around them t...

Re: EMP Effects on Vehicles
The thing with CMEs is that there is also a risk of melted wiring and or fires. That 1859 event made telegraph wires burn in places. And back then there weren't really many things in life that used electricity. Things are different now. And high currents going through cars wiring would certainly end...

Re: Hens,eggs and all that
We'd love to keep chickens. Are they noisy animals, would they attract much attention?
We have lots of room and only have neighbours on one side and the garden backs on to farmland.

Re: Food Riots -
I'm not sure id be up for pet food. In my job I've been to a few places that make dog and cat foods and although the spec maybe human compliant, the stuff that goes into it doesn't look or smell appealing. One place (popular brand) had animal produce like blood and other nasties all over the yard. S...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week
This week was our first week of prepping. We picked up 20 tinned produce, a load of dry packaged food stuffs, bottled water, medicines and cleaning products. We didn't spend much and have the beginnings of our cache. On top of our regular consumption of "stuff" we can now survive an extra ...

Re: EMP Effects on Vehicles
Bumping old post. Interesting vid on the effects of emp on a car https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0odJKYTzXg8 Although it doesn't say what it actually did to the car it doesn't turn over any more. I suspect an emp would most certainly fry all the ecus in modern vehicles. An emp proof(ish) car would h...

Re: Hi all from Lincolnshire
Thanks for the warm welcome :) The thing with emergency plans in a local sense such as mine is that the folks who have the information don't like to share it, they like to have that something to wield over the "civilians " Ive yet to infiltrate the local parish council, just waiting to hea...
