Re: Torches.

Headlamps key to enable you to do tasks 'hands-free'. Lanterns are good, or sticking a torch in a mug to bounce the light off the ceiling. Fairy lights, while undecidedly 'tactical' or 'prepping' are actually very nice too, most come in a comforting warm white colour, the LED ones run for ages off a...

Re: USB power pack

Have had an Anker PowerCore 20100 for a number of years- 20,000mAh advertised capacity. Agree with others that it's best to avoid the gimmicky solar panel power banks - last thing the lithium rechargable cells need is to be cooked in the sun all day! Lots of companies do small/portable folding panel...

Re: Equipping a vehicle

At the risk of opening one's mouth and sounding like an idiot... Do glass breakers and seatbelt cutters not need to be within reach of driver/passengers...?

What do you need it to detect? (Alpha/Beta/Gamma?)

What kind of dose rates?

Particular isotopes of interest?

Re: Choice and sources of Jars

Really useful thread! Thanks! My day-to-day ingredients are kept in the lever type kilner (and kilner style) glass jars. I'm deeply unimpressed with the Kilner brand jars, I've had quite a lot of flakes of glass from the rim where the metal lever makes contact. Ironically, I've found the Ikea ones ...

Re: RING video doorbells

I definitely have nothing against gadgets, I have a door sensor on the porch door with notes to delivery companies to leave parcels in the porch, and whenever the porch door is opened I get a notification & a snapshot from my CCTV within about 5 seconds - I even get it, with photo, to my watch ...

Re: Quorn meat substitute

Really interesting, thanks for highlighting this! Now, this is difficult as I've always thought of Quorn as one of the more viable meat substitutes - I'm not strictly veggie, but I'm trying to cut down on processed foods and (cheap) meat for environmental, animal welfare and health reasons... I'll h...

Re: Emergency home lighting

Self-confessed torch snob, couple of thoughts: While I own a tilly lamp, I would never run the thing inside as it would absolutely stink- the additional ventilation required would negate any heating effect the lamp would have. Candles are not part of my preps as I, personally, don't see the point of...

Re: strawberry thief - sort of

Had squirrels decimate my strawberries this year, they nibbled the stalks above the ripe and unripe fruits. Sounds like you might have squirrels or mice?
