Re: Prepper -'lite' or full on survivalist
In the late 1970s, with a young family, the cold war, job uncertainty, we started buying a little extra food as we could afford it, with very active kids we had a good first aid kit, holidays were camping.......things grew from there. That’s how we started prepping and we didn’t know it was......we...

Re: Prepper -'lite' or full on survivalist
Forum quirk I suppose but in some respects it made me smile. When I looked this thread sits right next to the nuclear war thread and couldn't help but see the irony in the almost polar opposites of answers. On this thread the talk is all about planning , bugging out , and surviving but on the nuclea...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week? Part 11

Re: In the event of nuclear war...
In reality for an all out nuclear war we are still talking of Russia who have a large enough arsenal . In likelihood I still think Putin be?ieves he can win in Ukraine by conventional means. China I tend to rule out as being the aggressor in this scenerio although I think they would retaliate if att...

Re: It's still about.
My daughter's boyfriend tested positive last week. First time he'd caught it as well and he was rough for a couple of days but seems ok now. Arzosah , funny you should mention rats peeing over pallets of goods. Way back in the early 80's at college as apprentice carpenters we were told not to put na...

Re: Pallet Wood quality Question
Well if you've already brought the stuff then any advice there is a bit of a stable door and horse situation. Personally I don't buy from B&Q , at least not their timber. The timber you have brought sounds ok for what you want to do. I don't know what tools you have but a circular saw and a powe...

Re: Pallet Wood quality Question
Nowt wrong with being frugal. Some say I'm as frugal as a duck's ,erm , back end. Sounds like you've got the process sorted. Basically the same process as I've done with buildings but with the advantage that the timbers are easier to work with. Nothing like a 16 ft peice of semi green oak at anythin...

Re: Pallet Wood quality Question
Just t add a plan C Fek it off , chop it up for firewood and get a new shed.. I say this because from time to time I will have someone phone me up asking about repairing a shed. It's rarely worth the expense for them unless it's a large shed with a relatively small repair. Granted you won't be facto...

Re: Pallet Wood quality Question
A couple of years ago a customer asked me about moving a couple of sheds , well stable field shelters to be exact. They had to be moved about 200yards so I levered them up and placed round fence posts underneath and with a little bit of help in the muscle department we moved them with relative ease....

Re: Pallet Wood quality Question
Incidentally , perhaps it was this thread and the discussion about slotted screws but this week I had a job to upcycle a couple of tables and consciously made the decision to use slots rather than pozis...
