I think I'd go down the cable ties route long before I'd consider carrying handcuffs; weight/cost/single usage/ explaining to the local finest why you need a pair of handcuffs etc ....

FC : I paid £67 for the 533 stove, which I didn't mind as all the research I'd done said the thing was pretty much bombproof.
