Did you wait long enough before harvesting? You need to wait until a week or so after a frost hits them, this then causes the tuber to draw down the carbs in the stalks, and the tubers swell. If it's rented I would check with the landlord/lease to make sure you have permission to use the loft as the lease I used (as a letting agent) stated no access or use of the loft. Haven't found any canisters that didn't work.

Also, empty canisters can be refilled from Campingaz CP250 Resealable Gas Cartridges (or similar), using a pocket size adaptor
