Very easy to operate as compared to the Baofeng units, they have an extra knob that allows you to scroll through frequencies and options easily, very clear sound, and the display is large...

Re: Getting your ham radio license

Just signed up to do the Advanced course with BADL , Bath distance learning, though got the Intermediate exam just after Christmas. Cannot recomend them enough, if you don't have a local club nearby, give them a try. Non profit club, and totaly focussed on getting new people on the air waves.

I already own some UV5R's , our favourite bidding site has these listed. If no one has any thoughts, I'll buy a pair...

Re: Thoughts on an old banger for SHTF?

My SHTF vehicle is an Eagle RV. It's based on a Ford Cortina Mk3, rock solid 2.0 ltr pinto engine engine. These can also be based on a land rover if you thought the diesel option is your thing. No rust, very basic, easy to fix, cheap to buy - there's a white one on ebay, (not mine, I've got a yellow...

Re: Alternative vehicle

Ok, beginning to see sense, looks like it maybe a second hand Grand Cherokee, would prefer a manual gearbox tho.
