Another great piece of software is hiren's boot CD. A bit complicated to get it onto a USB drive but includes a scaled down copy of Windows XP that can boot from the USB and a huge amount of freeware diagnostic and utility software. http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/ +1 for Hiren's, I've used it...

The only real winners for Bitcoin were the initial investors.

Bitcoin has its uses for buying items anonymously, but for a SHTF scenario I think its uses are quite limited.

From what I've learnt (may not be 100% correct): HAM radio runs special frequencies outside of the range of normal off-the-shelf 2 way radios, which you need a licence to use. I don't think I've ever had a waterproof bag, rain proof-ish perhaps, if you fall while crossing a stream then water will get into your bag no mater how good it is.
