He is amazing at building, fixing and making things, but not so great with technology. Ive also been upda...

Re: New member

Welcome, boomer! Exactly what Andy said - prep for the most common issues around you locally before you go for the minority stuff. Flooding? Power cut? Water out? Crime? It's all interesting stuff :) and so incredibly useful.

Re: Hello from north central Hampshire.

Welcome to the forum, Descender - you're right, *all* those landscapes are changing, and who knows what the implications will be. As far as not being skilled in the world of prepping is concerned - the skills you possess are definitely part of prepping, you've got a great start there. Keep going :)

Re: Greetings from the Midlands

Hello Exwind, welcome to the forum. You're spot on about urban prepping, the vast majority of us are in that situation. I'd add flooding, winter storms and even crime to the list of potential issues.

Re: Seeds

I'm not surprised you lost interest! For myself, now that I'm within spitting distance of having the back fence repaired, the laurel has been cut down far enough that I can control it myself in future, and the front fence has been finished off, its worth planting things up properly. As many perennia...

Re: Heating Rooms with no mains power

I was watching a Food Channel reunion type programme on two Chinese chefs returning to China after a long absence ... they were visiting the parents of the younger chef and everyone was in coats and hats - the voiceover casually mentioned that there's no central heating in older Chinese tower blocks...

Re: Who thinks a space earth ship is the ultimate idea?

I'm **strongly** resisting the urge to join in as I'd just give you a history of science fiction books and the NASA scientist who outlined ways to get us to start a low impact, low cost colony on Mars. However ... Wildman, what you're calling an earthship is a great idea anyway - sort of permacultur...

Re: Seeds

I can't offer any help on the seeds, but jansman, thanks for listing premier seeds direct - their description of American land cress is brilliant, exactly what a large percentage of my garden is like (shady with some moisture) ... I want to buy lots more now

Re: Hello from Southampton

Hello Wildman, welcome to the forum. Permaculture is wonderful, have you managed to put any of the principles into practice? Have you kept up any of the skills and fitness from during your time as an eco volunteer? I well remember learning how to construct fences during a long weekend with BTCV :)
