Re: What Preps are you doing this week

This week was our first week of prepping. We picked up 20 tinned produce, a load of dry packaged food stuffs, bottled water, medicines and cleaning products. We didn't spend much and have the beginnings of our cache. On top of our regular consumption of "stuff" we can now survive an extra...

Re: Food Riots -

I'm happily in the position that my Granny was a butcher... so not too squeamish with the animal bits at this end ! There's nothing that puts me off on principle, but there ARE things I'm not fond of - pigs kidney's for example don't taste very nice- but they do make good stock for minestrone and th...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

At last my new fridge arrives tomorrow, been very very difficult going without a working fridge for a month but hurrah, the end is in sight!! Have to say though that the bottles of water frozen in the freezer (4 bottles used in rotation of 2) and then put on the top shelf of the fridge really did m...

Hat's off to you - you're absolutely right to change your life the way you want to and I wish you every success for the future.

All the positivity of course is entirely conditional on you keeping us posted ;)

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

We too are struggling for water (yes even in the West of Scotland we're boiling!) and the gallons that we're using on the plots because we've got so many young veg plants are scary! On another note - This week's big prep is my new bike and the fact that I've started a new physio routine for my back ...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

I absolutely agree, Feisty - but the briquettes we're referring to are made out of newspaper, so what I'm enquiring about is why using briquettes made out of newspaper might be preferable to using the newspaper directly, just scrunching it into a roll and not having all the faff of wetting it and d...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

Has anyone here used the machine that makes logs from old newspapers? If so is it any good and can they be burnt on any type of fire? Hi Decaff - I have one and while I agree with all comments that it's a faff, it's a messy job, it's a lot of work for little return etc.etc. - it's still easily lit,...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week

I'm also plot focussed right now. I did a seed stocktake and I've been very pleasantly surprised at stocks (dates are good and they've been stored well, so viability should be ok) so only new seed potatoes and onion sets have been purchased so far this year. I'm not planning on being too adventurous...

Re: dipping into stocks and improving attitudes!

Feisty - try lifting the tatties earlier. Grow Charlotte / swift or another early and whip out of the bags as you need them....... Or Vivaldi (I like these as they can be lifted early OR left to mature. My problem with protein is really my 6 year old - she doesn't "do" pulses!! i.e. not ev...
