Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Not posted for a while as I just moved house :D Out in the countryside now with a decent sized garden, stream at the bottom and a few little outbuildings for storage. Got my 4 chickens last week and they are providing me with 3 eggs a day on average, super tasty and good for trading with neighbours ...

Re: Bomb shelters
Quite interesting pictures there. Seems that most of the stuff was in pretty good condition for 50+ years old. Interesting to see that the can of coffee had rusted through and a tin of pills (?/medicine?) appeared to have suffered badly, but pretty much everything else was pristine. Must be very dry...

Re: Growing veg, starting now?
To grow on grass (the lazy way - the way I did it) put down some old cardboard boxes to kill off the grass and let it mulch down a bit, then stick a raised bed frame around the area (I bought 1m square ones, or it would be easy to knock up frames from pieces of timber). Leave it a few weeks (dependi...

Re: What is your concept of Bugging Out?
bugging out is an ex special forces/Ray Mears experienced persons option and even for them surely not their first one? If the number of people who say they'd bug out "to the woods" actually came true then even Ray Mears couldn't survive in the wilds in the UK. Game would be hunted / scare...

Re: What Preps are you doing this week
Just had my house valued to sell it off so I can become mortgage free again. Surrounded by boxes of stuff ready to move to new house on friday then I can begin a new chapter in my preps. More land to grow stuff but less storage space so it's turning out to be a great opportunity to de-clutter and tr...

Re: Legal or not
Keep in mind the local plod's attitude might have toughened up a little since 4 stabbings in the city in April / May. It might be a sleepy little rural city, but after featuring on national news due to multiple stabbings, advice to officers / attitudes to carrying knives will probably have shifted s...

Re: Definitive guide for storing water for long periods of t
Keep in mind that if you really tried to survive on just 1.2 litres a day you'd really need to be excellent at rationing. That means no water for washing yourself (you'd stink pretty soon), no water for washing clothes, no water to flush the toilet, no water to wash up dishes and pans, no extra wate...

Re: Gas mask/filters
We have these instructions on the masks we are provided with at work. However it goes on to say that if you use them without being trained you could suffer serious injury or even death, and as I havent had any training I don't use it, surely I'm safer that way ? right ?!

Re: Gas mask/filters
Filters / gas masks may be useful if you are concerned about ash particles, but sulphur dioxide is a gas so i think (and I'm no expert) that a normal gas mask / filter would do nothing, you'd need a full BA (breathing apparatus) kit - which is kinda impractical  If sulphur dioxide levels in the...

Re: Lights
Main problem with Gennies is they are really only a stop-gap measure, Post Katrina loads of people ran gennies so they could have their lights, fridges and AC.....For a short while, then the fuel ran low. Anyone remember the footage of the gas-lines? Long queues of people with several plastic fuel ...
